What is a Periodontist?   Your Dentist has recommended that you see Dr. Peshoff. Dr. Peshoff is a dentist who has been specially trained to treat gum disease and other disorders of the tissues surrounding your teeth.
What is Periodontal Disease?   Periodontal Disease is a painless infection of the gums leading to loss of bone around your teeth.
What will happen at my first visit?   Dr. Peshoff will complete a thorough examination to measure for bone loss, loose teeth or other signs of infection. You will be asked to complete a personal health history.
Will it hurt?   Dr. Peshoff will be as gentle as possible. The periodontal exam can be done with no or little discomfort.
Do I need X-rays?   Dr. Peshoff will need current periodontal X-rays in order to see disease not otherwise visible.
What will it cost?   Since all patients are different, Dr. Peshoff must complete your examination before establishing your treatment plan and the fee for care.
Will my Insurance cover the cost?   Dental insurance policies often cover periodontal treatment. Bring a dental claim form to your examination appointment. It can be submitted to pre-determine your insurance benefits.
Will I need surgery?   Not everyone needs periodontal surgery. If treated early, gum disease can be controlled without surgery. Dr. Peshoff will make recommendations based on your individual situation.
Can my teeth be saved?   The recent advances in periodontal treatment allow the Periodontist to successfully treat most teeth.
When will I go back to my General Dentist?   Dr. Peshoff and your Dentist will work closely together. If crowns and fillings are needed your Dentist will provide them. Regular visits to your Dentist are an important part of periodontal maintenance.
What if I don't have gum treatment?   Periodontal disease is a progressive, painless infection. Delay can cause you further bone loss and more expense. If your teeth are lost, dentures are never as effective as your own teeth.
